Sushi rolls are at the top of my list of favourite foods to treat myself. It’s the perfect lunch or dinner, eating out with a group of friends or as a takeout while binge-watching a show on Netflix. I LOVE Asian Cuisine and sushi definitely makes the cut. However, it can be a little pricey, at an average of €8 per roll. We are making Homemade Sushi at only €3.50 per roll. That means you can eat twice as much (wink wink). Also because it’s really fun, delicious and you can satisfy sushi cravings instantly. The most popular style of sushi maki rolls are Futomaki and Uramaki. So, I am sharing both styles in this homemade sushi recipe!
Futomaki style sushi has a Nori seaweed sheet on the outside and Uramaki style sushi (also called the ‘Inside-Out Roll’) has rice on the outside hiding the Nori. My favourites are the Philadelphia Salmon Uramaki and Beef Stir Fry Futomaki rolls. However, you can really play around with the ingredients according to your personal taste. Usually, sushi rolls have one protein source and a variety of vegetables.
Other Homemade Sushi Roll ideas:

- Alaska Salmon
- Crispy Tofu
You will need a bamboo mat, sushi rice and rice vinegar, in addition to the other ingredients. All of the ingredients (inc. the mat) will cost around €35 and this makes 10 rolls; that’s only €3.50 per roll! AND you can reuse many things the second time you make them, such as the sushi mat, leftover sauces and rice vinegar.
I think Sushi rolls are one of those love-it-or-hate-it foods. Believe it or not, the first time I tried sushi, I absolutely hated it. A few years later, I tried it again and I was hooked. That’s when I realized what I didn’t like the first time was the raw fish. Traditional Japanese Sushi is all about the raw seafood. But if you’re a picky eater, like me, you can still enjoy a Westernized style of sushi. These Philadelphia Salmon Uramaki and Beef Stir Fry Futomaki rolls are absolutely delicious. So get rolling!
As always, let me know if you make them, I’d love to see!
Happy indulging,
Kim x
