Easy Tiramisu Recipe (without eggs)

Tiramisu is a traditional Italian dessert with delicious layers of coffee-soaked biscuits, mascarpone cream and cocoa powder. This classic tiramisu recipe without eggs is quick and easy to whip up and a total crowd-pleaser. I love making no-bake recipes, especially during the hotter months and tiramisu is one of my favourites. This is one of those desserts that you can’t help but go back for a second serving.Jump to recipe

Traditional Tiramisu Recipe

Traditionally, Tiramisu is made up of alternating layers of ladyfingers soaked in espresso and coffee liqueur and mascarpone whipped cream sprinkled with cocoa powder. It’s a very simple recipe that can be done in 40 minutes or less and the result is buonissimo! I love the combination of coffee, chocolate and cream – super refreshing and indulgent in a light way.

So for my recipe, I made a few small variations:

  1. No eggs – This tiramisu recipe is without eggs for 2 reasons. First of all, I know that not everyone is comfortable eating raw eggs even though they are pasteurised. Secondly, it just makes it all the more quick & easy to whip up and tastes just as amazing.
  2. Coffee liqueur – I used Kahlúa coffee liqueur, you can use any brand that you like or even opt for an alcohol-free tiramisu by omitting it completely.
  3. Cocoa powder on both cream layers – Chocolate is just delicious and the bitterness from the cocoa powder balances everything really nicely.
  4.  Piping on top – I do this extra step to make it look more aesthetically-pleasing, it is completely optional.

It’s important to let everything set and combine in the fridge for a sturdy tiramisu that doesn’t fall apart. As much as you would like to dig in, I really recommend to keep it chilled at least overnight before serving it. Your patience will pay off, I promise.

As always, let me know if you make this, I’d love to see!  I’d really appreciate it if you leave a review or a comment if you try it, it helps others as well. 🙂

Happy indulging,

Kim x

Total Time 40 minutes

Ingredients

Biscuit Layer

  • 30 ladyfingers biscuits
  • 1 cup Kahlúa coffee liqueur
  • 4 tbsp espresso powder
  • 1 cup warm water

Cream Layer

  • 450g mascarpone cheese, cold
  • 400ml heavy cream, cold
  • 150g powdered sugar

Instructions

    1. In a large bowl, whisk mascarpone, heavy cream, sugar and vanilla together with a handheld electric mixer until it reaches medium peak stage.
    2. In a separate bowl, stir together Kahlúa, espresso and warm water. Dip each lady finger in this coffee mixture on both sides and place them next to each other in a single layer in a glass or ceramic dish (21cm by 30cm).
    3. Cover the lady finger layer with 1/3 of the cream mixture. Sprinkle a light layer of sifted cocoa powder over the cream.
    4. Create another layer of coffee-dipped lady fingers. Cover with another 1/3 of the mascarpone filling.
    5. Transfer the rest of the cream mixture into a piping bag with a French star nozzle. Pipe stars over the entire surface. (optional)
    6. Cover in cling film being careful not to disturb the piping. Refrigerate at least overnight, this is very important. Sprinkle sifted cocoa powder over the top and serve chilled. Enjoy!
